Chapter 5 Excerpt

A little more for you all from our introduction to Claston City Mayor, Alfie Galloway.

He had not managed to achieve all of the goals he had set for himself: the city council was still dominated by wealthy, white, middle-aged males. Despite his lobbying for the cause of numerous women who stood for election, the city of Claston had trodden heavily on his dreams on the day of the ballot, preferring instead to stick with the age-old tradition of over-promoting mediocre men and branding women with vision and drive as “pushy” and “emotional”. These labels troubled Galloway greatly: as the rest of the country surged into the 21st Century, Claston lingered in the past like a city forgotten by progress; one that had bought a ticket but had forgotten to board the train.
